MicroLux

For architects & designers

Architectural microcement, specified with confidence.

The Atriafloor Super Titanium system from Colorificio Atria, Sicily, installed by an Atria-certified team. Build-up, declared performance, substrate and wet-area requirements, and a specification clause, on one page.

Beautiful isn't enough. Architectural microcement has to perform as well as it looks.

01The system

One manufacturer, from primer to topcoat.

Atria guarantees declared performance only when the complete cycle is used. We never substitute a layer.

In wet areas the system is installed over a waterproofing membrane. Microcement and its topcoat are a finish, not a membrane.

Hygiene

  • Antibacterial: tested to ISO 22196:2011 by 3A Laboratori S.r.l., with the certification declared by the manufacturer on New Atriapol Antibacterial. Reduction > 99.999% for E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus hirae; > 99.992% Acinetobacter baumannii; > 99.984% Staphylococcus aureus; > 99.968% MRSA.
  • Cleanability: tested to UNI 11021:2002 (Istituto Giordano). No mould growth at high humidity, 5,000 wash cycles, and no damage after 24 hours in chlorine, alkaline, acid and disinfectant cleaners.

Colorificio Atria S.r.l., Partanna, Sicily. ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified. CE declarations of performance under EU Regulation 305/2011.

03Substrates

What it goes over, and what we check first.

Suitable
Concrete slabs, sand-cement screeds, marble, and sound existing ceramic or porcelain tiles. Wall substrates are confirmed at Site Assessment.
Before any coat
Every substrate is moisture-tested, checked for soundness and movement, and recorded in a written Site Assessment report. Loose or drummy tiles are replaced, cracks are assessed and repaired, and significant level variation is corrected with self-levelling compound before the system starts.
Movement
Structural and control joints in the substrate are carried through the finish. We review joint layout with the design team before work starts.
Scope
Outdoor applications use the same system, with substrate, falls, exposure and membrane assessed per project. Pools and immersed areas are not covered here.
Underfloor heating
Compatible with underfloor heating.

04Wet areas

One point of responsibility in wet areas.

  • Microcement is a finish, not a waterproofing membrane. In showers and wet areas the system goes over a compliant membrane to AS 3740.
  • Where a new membrane is in scope, MicroLux installs and certifies it as part of one system.
  • Where waterproofing is by others, we sight the membrane and its certificate before the finish goes on, and record it.
  • Falls to wastes are formed in the substrate or screed; the finish follows them.

05Program and curing

Program and curing.

  • Each coat is fully cured before the next goes on. Durations are set in working days in our written proposal.
  • Most bathrooms take 5–6 working days on site.
  • Wet areas are not used for 7 days after completion. Light foot traffic from about 7 days, full use from about 30 days.
  • We plan following trades and access around these times with the builder from the start.

06Finish and colour

Finish and colour.

Colour
Colours from the Atria Box True Cement chart, or tinted to a custom colour.
Textures
Smooth (calm and even, usual for floors) · Subtle texture (soft movement, walls and ceilings) · Italian stamp (stronger, stone-like, feature walls).
Topcoat
Topcoat in matt or gloss.
Samples
Physical samples are made for each project and signed off in the room's own light before work starts. Tonal movement is part of a hand-applied finish, not a defect.
Maintenance
Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid bleach and abrasives. The topcoat is the wear layer and is renewed with a light sand and recoat every three to four years, depending on use.

07Warranty, insurance and team

Warranty, insurance and team.

Warranties

10-year product warranty from Atria Australia. 5-year workmanship warranty from MicroLux. Both transfer with the property. A check-up at 24 months.

Insurance and compliance

$20M public liability. WorkCover. A SWMS issued for every project. Our own police-checked, White Card-certified installers, trained and certified in the Atria system. MicroLux Pty Ltd, ABN 28 273 430 986. Certificates of currency on request.
