Slip resistance, kids, pets and underfloor heating

What everyday life looks like on a seamless surface: grip underfoot, family and pet use, and what to know about underfloor heating.

4 min read

A surface has to work for the way you actually live. That includes wet feet, small children, pets with claws and cold winter mornings. Here is what to know.

Slip resistance

Slip resistance depends on the texture and topcoat chosen for each area. A smooth finish suits most living areas; shower floors and other wet floors usually get a textured finish. We go through it area by area at your Site Assessment and confirm the specification in writing in your proposal.

Like any surface, grip still depends on keeping it clean. Soap residue and standing water make any floor slippery, so the care kit we provide at handover includes guidance on keeping the surface in good condition.

Kids

A seamless surface has no grout lines to collect crumbs or spills, which many families appreciate. It is a continuous surface that wipes clean. The sealers protect against stains.

Like most hard floors, it is firm underfoot. Rugs and mats in play areas are a sensible addition in any home with small children.

Pets

The protective topcoat, Atriapol, is there to take the daily wear. That includes paws and claws. As with any hard floor, a little care helps: keeping claws trimmed and cleaning up accidents promptly.

Over time, wear shows first in the sealer, not the finish underneath. That is why re-sealing, typically every three to four years, depending on use, is part of ownership. A busy household with pets may sit toward the shorter end.

Underfloor heating

The system is compatible with underfloor heating.

The first weeks

After installation, the area stays off-limits for about 7 days while the sealers cure. There is a light sealer odour for the first 2 to 3 days. Full cure takes about 30 days, so it is worth being a little gentle during that time.

A free check-up

We include a free on-site check-up at 24 months. It is a chance to look at how the surface is wearing in your household and to advise on when re-sealing makes sense.

If you have specific concerns about your household, raise them on your Project Fit Call and we will talk them through honestly.
