Many people ask whether a seamless floor can continue outside. The honest answer is that it depends on the space. Here is how we approach balconies and outdoor areas.
Offered where suitable
We offer exteriors where they are suitable. Suitability depends on the surface, the exposure and the conditions, and it is confirmed at the Site Assessment. Covered areas are the most straightforward. Fully exposed surfaces need more careful specification.
One system, inside and out
Outdoor areas use the same Atriafloor Super Titanium system as indoors, in matching colours, so inside and outside read as one.
The protective topcoat
The protective topcoat is New Atriapol, a two-component polyurethane that the manufacturer states is UV-resistant and non-yellowing.
The finish is not a waterproofing membrane
Microcement is not a waterproofing membrane. Balconies over living space go over a compliant external membrane to AS 4654.2. Falls to drainage, exposure and thresholds are assessed at Site Assessment. Texture and slip resistance are chosen for the exposure and confirmed in your proposal.
Movement and drainage
Movement and drainage matter more outdoors than they do inside. Before anything is applied, we check the existing joints, the falls and the drainage.
Looking after it
Care is the same as indoors. Re-sealing is typically needed every three to four years, depending on exposure and use.
Starting the conversation
If you are thinking about a balcony or a covered area, mention it on your Project Fit Call. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth assessing.
