What is microcement?

Microcement is a thin, seamless surface applied by hand in layers onto a prepared surface. It gives one continuous look across floors, walls and wet areas, with no grout lines.

What is the MicroLux Seamless System?

It is a complete system built around Atria Super Titanium, made in Sicily by Colorificio Atria since 1968. The layers are substrate preparation, primer, base coats, Super Titanium finish, Atriafloor Filler and Atriapol protective topcoat.

Can it go over my existing tiles?

Possibly, where the tiles are suitable. The substrate is tested and prepared first, and whether it is suitable is confirmed at the Site Assessment.

Is microcement waterproof?

The finish itself is water resistant and the sealers protect against stains, but it is not a waterproofing membrane. In wet areas it goes over a compliant waterproofing membrane, which MicroLux can install and certify as part of one system.

What is the difference between the two specifications?

Internal walls can go straight over paint-ready plaster without base coats. The complete system adds two base coats and is required over MDF and similar board substrates.

Can microcement go on a kitchen benchtop and splashback?

Yes. The benchtop, splashback and island can be finished in one surface, with edges that wrap rather than join. In a kitchen the sealer does the hard work, so it is chosen for heat, stains and daily use. The finish coat is rated by the manufacturer for service temperatures from −10 °C to +120 °C, so always use a trivet or board for hot pans and trays.

Exteriors are offered where suitable. Suitability depends on the surface, the exposure and the conditions, and is confirmed at the Site Assessment. Covered areas are the most straightforward, and we do not do pools.

How long does installation take?

For bathrooms, time on site depends on the size and complexity of the bathroom and how much surface preparation is needed. The best case is 5 to 6 working days on site, including handover. Larger or more complex bathrooms take longer, and the exact timing is confirmed in your proposal. Floors take about a week on site.

You receive a care kit at handover, and a free on-site check-up at 24 months that also advises on re-seal timing.

Can I stay home during the install?

For bathrooms, you can usually stay home if another bathroom is usable. For floors, most clients stay elsewhere during the install.

When can I use the area again?

The area stays off-limits for about 7 days after the install while the sealers cure. There is a light sealer odour for the first 2 to 3 days, and full cure takes about 30 days.

How slip resistant is it?

Slip resistance depends on the texture and topcoat chosen for each area. Shower floors and other wet floors usually get a textured finish. We go through it at your Site Assessment and confirm the specification in writing in your proposal.

You sign off colour and texture on a real sample before work starts. Samples are brought to the Site Assessment so you can see them in your own light.
